The biggest release of Bastion, ever!

It's finally here! The release you've been waiting sooo long for. You might be wondering what took so long and what's new in this release. Don't worry we understand your hype. Here, in the first blog post of our new blog, we'll be answering all those curious questions of yours.

Let's get to the point, straight away.

So, what's new?

• Didn't like to see details in your logs? You can now set the amount of data shown in the terminal by modifying the value of logLevel key in the config.
• And the logs will also show how long it took Bastion to boot up completely!
• Tired of cross-server currencies and leveling system? Each server now has their separate currency & leveling system. Which means server owners have the power to give (or take) any amount of currencies to (or from) any member of their server! Oh yeah, they can also give any amount of XP they want!
• Tired of looking through the moderation logs to find a specific case? You can now use a single command to fetch any case from the moderation logs.
• Claiming daily currencies continuously will now count towards your daily streak. Oh, wait, there's more. If you get a streak of 7 days, you'll get a bonus of up to 700 currencies. Ain't that motivating enough?
• Private currency & leveling system sounded good? Here's some more good sounding news. Triggers & responses are now private per each server too! Oh yeah, that means as you can have triggers for your servers without needing to be the bot owner!
• Talking about triggers, their responses aren't text only anymore. They also support embedded messages & reactions as well. Yes, you can even combine them all!
• Oh, and greetings & farewells support custom message embeds too!
• There's a new Members Only mode, which will prevent users without any role in your server from using Bastion. Good way to keep strangers away from your lovely bot.
• Pinning messages just got easier, you can now pin a message to the channel just by adding either 📌 or 📍 reaction to the message.
• While we are at it, let me tell you something more. You can also relay a message to the announcement channel just by adding either 📢 or 📣 reaction to the message.
• A highly requested feature, Reaction Roles! For those of you who don't know what it is, it's similar to self assignable roles, but instead of using commands, you can use reactions to assign (or remove, for that matter) roles to yourself.
• AFK mode, bruh! You can now set yourself as AFK and anyone mentioning you, in a server you manage, will be responded by Bastion that you are away from your keyboard.
• Level up messages will now show some inspirational texts to celebrate your success!
• Wanna move your entire squad at once? We got you! You can now mass move members from one voice channel to another.
• Spoilers! You can now send (and view) spoilers in the chat without spoiling it for everybody. It was needed so much by the entertainment community!
• Tired of people sending sneaky links in chats and deceive you? Bastion can warn you about sneaky links in messages sent in the server so that everyone's able to know about it without dropping a sweat!
• If you're hosting Bastion yourself, and if someone sends something to Bastion via DM, Bastion can now let you know about those. After all, it loves you!
• Let's talk about music. Bastion can now auto play songs of its choice when there's no song in the queue.
• You can also configure Bastion to prevent it from automatically disconnecting from voice channels when music is stopped or the queue is finished. Here's your ticket to a 24x7 music channel!
• Talking about music, music masters can now have different music playlists in different servers.
• Tired of the kids these days that do emoji spams? Bastion can now filter messages that are emoji spams. No warning, nothing. Straight up, filtering.
• You can now gift items that you buy from the server shop, directly while buying it.
• You can now set descriptions for roles and servers too! Who cares if Discord doesn't allow that yet? Bastion has got your back.
• Why were you forced to enable moderation logs just to be able to get user reports? We were so bad. We won't force you to do that anymore. You can now set a separate report channel where user reports will be posted. Dang! That's so much better.
• You can now set specific channels and roles to be ignored by all the filters, the starboard, as well as from gaining XP as well!
• You can also toggle Bastion. Turn on/off Bastion in just one command!
• You can now set a color, and a custom avatar for your Bastion profile too! Yeah, animated avatars are supported too!
• Oh, by the way, unlike previous versions, level ups and XP gains are disabled by default. You've to enable it manually if your server needs it.
• If a role is unmentionable from your server settings, you can still instruct Bastion to mention it. All without going to settings and making it mentionable, mentioning it, and going to settings again and making it unmentionable — AGAIN! Bastion will handle this work load for ya!
• Bastion can now even keep track of top games and songs that the server members play! Cool, right?

Goodness! That was a long read. But wait, that's not it. There are many more subtle features that were added to v7 to make it the biggest Bastion release ever. Like, being able to send ROT13 encoded messages, for example.

New Commands…

A ton of new commands are available in V7! To get the entire list of commands, please visit https://bastionbot.org/commands.

While adding new features, we also enhanced some abilities…

• Logs are now much prettier, than it already was!
• Commands that work in direct messages doesn't need a prefix anymore.
• Multiple prefixes can now be set from the config too!
• Updating moderation case reasons was tough. You had to go find the message ID of that case. We felt your pain too and you can use moderation case numbers instead of moderation log message IDs.
• Remember daily claim cooldowns was reset after a restart? Now it'll still be in effect even after Bastion restarts.
• You can now set any number of channels as voting channels. No more limitations!
• While we were removing limitations, we also removed limitations for level up roles. You can now add any number of level up roles.
• Remember we said currencies aren't cross-server anymore? That means you can now do currency giveaways in your own servers as well!
• Remember triggers being open to every server? While we were at it, we also made trigger responses support a whole bunch of custom variables now.
• Remember those new server specific user playlists we added? We made it even better because adding music from user playlists to the queue is now faster than ever!
• Talking about music, you now get better lyrics! Just try it out yourself.
• Warning! Warnings are now permanently stored! No one can now get away with their previous warnings!
• Server logging will also log message update and message delete events. But don't worry, removed message content won't be shown or stored anywhere. We respect our users' privacy. YEAH, I'M TALKING TO YOU FACEBOOK!
• We never realized you weren't able to enable an entire disabled module at once. So, here it is. You can now enable disabled modules using the! But wait, it isn't called modules anymore. The cool kids over at the Bastion fam now call it Command Categories.
• We all love the acrophobia game, which is thanks to our good ol' mod gh0s7. But what you'll love more is that it now uses relative frequencies of letters (as the first word of English words) to generate acronyms for the game. Yup, totally cool!
• Level up roles are now synced. Which means, if you add new roles to a level and users who have passed that level will still be able to get it, automagically!
• Oh, yeah, and level up roles can now be exclusive. Which means if a user gets to a level, they can only have roles that are available in that level. All roles from previous (or next — in case they leveled down) levels will be removed from them.
• You can also clear messages sent in the last specified minutes. Yup! You got some control over time!
• Wasn't bio a thing in Bastion profiles? Well, the cool kids now call it user info. You still wanna call it bio? Go ahead… but Bastion won't listen to uncool kids.

These have been removed… For better or worse…

• To-do lists are gone. 😢 But don't you worry, they might get a wild card back in a future release. And maybe with improvements. Who's to say?
• There's no more gift shop! Who needs a gift shop when you can have a totally custom shop where you can gift items as well? I'll answer that, no one.
• Oh, and the good old slow mode was removed from Bastion. Because now Discord has this sick per-channel configurable slow mode in-build!

And these bugs are dead…

• Fixed an issue that prevented users from not getting all level up roles when they already had one of the roles from that level.
• Scheduled commands now work with any type of arguments. Previously it was not possible to pass flags/options to the scheduled commands. But we fixed it!

And while all these tons of new features were added, lots of enhancements were done and some bugs were fixed, this might bring some new bugs. We will find out when everyone starts using it. But don't you worry about that, we will kill all those bugs, currently hiding in the closet, as soon as practical. If you find any bug while using it, you can report it right over here and our elves will make it their priority to fix it!

What lies in the future?

V7 opens new doors for Bastion and what lies ahead of it. I can't guarantee or promise you anything now, but, trust me, a lot of new features are yet to come and Bastion will get better and better as it ages. Don't worry it won't die, it's a robot, after all! You'll see a lot of new features coming ahead in the future releases. If you've any suggestions for features, feel free to open a feature request and we'll see what can be done.

While this was a big rewrite and the biggest release of Bastion (Did I forget to mention it earlier?), this isn't the end of the world. We're still gonna release incremental updates to Bastion, as long as we can.
